Emotions are an indispensable part of the process of perception and reflection. Based on Fuchs’ model of the emotional circle and Kuhl’s PSI theory, this study shows how both positive and negative feelings can be beneficial for students’ learning and development. ‘Schreibdenken’ (thinking in writing) according to Scheuermann was used as innovative data collection in a seminar. With reference to research in language psychology, the study shows how this method of written speech creates access to the experience and expression of emotions and to what extent this is relevant for students’ personality development.
