The Journal for Higher Education Development – Review and analysis

The Journal for Higher Education Development has a long and interesting history. In this article, we aim to describe and analyse the publication in order to elaborate the development over time. The analysis shows how the journal’s topics and focal points track developments in higher education. In order to show the comparability and impact of the journal, we outline considerations that underpin how important the role of the journal is for higher education institutions in the German-speaking world and beyond. Forty years, almost twenty of them as open access, is a considerable period of time for such a medium. This is therefore an occasion for us to reflect on the development of the journal.
