The best of both worlds – Integrating sustainability and digitalisation in higher education teaching

Digitalisation and sustainable development are two trends in higher education and beyond. Despite the challenges, their combination offers significant potential. Considering the two fields together raises questions about the competences needed by both teachers and students, as well as the support needed to foster these abilities. The „Certificate for University Lecturers in Education for Sustainable Development“ from the Alliance of Sustainable Universities in Austria offers an inter-university, modular training program with a focus on education for sustainable development. One course in the basic module, offered jointly by the University of Salzburg and the University College of Teacher Education in Upper Austria, deals with the connection between digitalisation and sustainability in university teaching, including the possibilities and challenges.
