This paper examines the perceived impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the teacher-student relationship in university teaching based on 16 interviews with teachers. The results show the opportunities and challenges of a supportive integration of AI in the teaching-learning process and the central role of the teacher. The results show  growing importance of the teacher in promoting a culture of interaction and support in learning processes in which AI is increasingly used. The study highlights the need to reflect on the role of AI in the teacher-student relationship and emphasizes that AI should be integrated into the teaching-learning process in a didactically motivated way.
