Research-based learning on job-specific use of generative AI

Generative AI is presenting new challenges for higher education due to its disruptive features. Teachers must prepare students for a job market in which AI will likely play a dominant role without having recourse to their own experiences. One possible way address this mismatch is research-based learning. This allows the students to explore applications for AI in their own domain, as AI and its bearing on the students’ future occupations become the actual research topic. This paper presents an exemplary implementation in STEM teacher training.
