The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into academic assessment poses ethical, technical and legal challenges for universities. Fair and transparent assessment processes that meet ethical and academic standards are essential, as is compliance with data protection under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Responsibility for AI decisions must be clearly regulated, and human review of AI-assisted results is crucial. This paper highlights the ethical, legal and technical frameworks for the use of AI in academic assessment and provides guidelines for fair and transparent implementation in higher education.
