Universities at the crossroads of artificial intelligence and possible futures
Main Article Content
In the VUCA world, characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) intensifies both existing challenges and opportunities by destabilizing established structures and amplifying uncertainties. A key to successfully addressing these dynamics lies in the simultaneous development of AI literacy and futures literacy. AI literacy empowers individuals to engage with AI technologies competently and critically, while futures literacy supports the anticipation of possible futures and the creation of innovative, resilience-enhancing strategies. Both competencies must be conceptualized, promoted, and strategically interconnected to enable meaningful long-term decision-making.
This contribution presents seven methodological approaches designed to support the development of these competencies. These methods are intended to undergo empirical validation to assess their effectiveness and relevance within the higher education context. The ultimate goal is to establish evidence-based educational strategies that empower learners to navigate a rapidly changing world with autonomy and success.
