ChatGPT marks a turning point in higher education discourse by articulating a specific understanding of AI as educational disruption. This narrative of disruption shapes much of the educational activities in Germanophone higher education. However, little nuanced research has been done into what this means regarding the design of AI-based teaching/learning. This preliminary narrative discourse analysis explores narratives of disruption and tentatively investigates the related politics of narrative plots. The resulting heuristic distinguishes three plots, highlighting fundamental academic values in higher education.
