This paper analyses student perspectives on generative AI in the university context, using ChatGPT as an example. The study includes students’ personal use, their related opinions and the correlations between anxiety, attitudes, and frequency of use. Data was collected from 262 students (n=170 female, age: M=22.24) from various disciplines using a theory-based questionnaire. The results show that a large proportion of students use ChatGPT, but there is a strong desire for university policies and guidelines, and that all the constructs analysed are interrelated. The significance of the results is discussed, and implications for practice and future research are derived.
