Involving students and their experiences in university teacher and curriculum development has the potential to better facilitate the design and implementation of study programmes that are conducive to learning. Here we present a process for the pedagogical facilitation, co-design and support of partnerships between students and teachers at the course and curriculum levels. We will discuss the findings from two teacher professional development projects (Students as Partners, Students’ University) implemented at Freie Universität Berlin and identify overarching principles and success factors for enabling effective student participation.
